You still have to hook up your cable wires to the computer in order to watch tv through your PC.

A TV tuner card allows your computer to process and display regular TV from sources like cable, satellite, or an antenna. While there is getting to be more and more TV available via the Internet, which does not require a tuner card to watch, just an Internet connection (preferably a fast connection), the tuner card is probably still the best way to get television on your computer.

The real usefulness of a TV tuner card is what the computer can do with the television signal once it is digitized. Media Center PC's can record shows for "time shifting" and allow you to watch the show later and fast forward through commercials. You can then archive the shows on your computers hard drive, burn them to a CD or DVD, or transfer them to a portable device.

All these extra features depend on your hardware and the software on your machine.
