They assemble them flat and raise them with strings once inside the bottle.Sometimes they assemble the entire ship in the bottle using long handled tools.

Most of the ship is strung together so it is folded up to get through the neck of the bottle. Then when the string(or thread) is pulled the masts and sides of the ship open up. Sort of like folding hand fans.

There are also tools made for doing the tasks required through the neck of the bottle. Grabbing, smoothing, placing, gluing, but most of it gets done before it goes in the bottle.

They don't. They put the two halves of the bottle around the already built ship.
