spend so much money on their babies first birthday(like hiring clowns, magicians etc, and spending so much money on it) when the kid wont ever remember it anyway?

by the way, i do have children, and we live by logic, we celebrated the birthdays, but didnt go all out like a lot of people do, we dont see the sense in it. yes, it is ok to go all out, i am not condemning it. i was just curious. we discussed it before, and actually i have a brother that went so far as to hire a "mini carnival" complete with a petting zoo...the guy lives on a farm!!!!!!!!
for his kids' birthdays.
we were just wondering why some people do that, brothers reason..."write it off on taxes as entertainment"... but seriously, my question still stands as "why do people go all out on their kids first birthday?

You must not have children to ask a question like that every true parent wants their child or children to have the best experience the best, be the best it not only brings the feeling of joy and overwhelming happiness to the parents at that moment (even if the child does not remember it!!.) you can see the child has the same love and joy affection for his/her parents it's their first together the first real time that a parent see that babies grow so fast and they just don't ever want to lose the moments.

The first couple of birthdays are for the benefit of the parents and the family. It is the first major milestone, and although they may not remember it, it is a big deal to mom & dad & grandparents, etc.

Besides, there are always photographs the child can enjoy when they get older!

I really don't know - I don't have any kids of my own yet..... But you should see the parties my family has for the kids. I come from a huge Italian family and for the kid's 1st, 16th and 21st birthdays they throw parties bigger than the average person's wedding.... Then our weddings are way out of this world... Mine was 6 years ago and people still talk about it.

To impress other people!! Or to show that you love yr kid a lot!! Remember that a sudden change in the environment around a young baby can create "anxiety" rather than happiness!!
WE tend to give to our children what we did received before when we were young!!

The first few birthdays are more about the parents celebrating their child's birth than the child who wont remember.... but the pictures are for the child in the future to show him/her they were loved
