Those 5 drinks will escalate to 6 then 7, etc. She needs to get help before she becomes chemically addicted. chemical addiction is hard to kick if she isnt already there. And for all you alkies in denial who answered this question, there are other alternatives for stress relief that are not addictive. 5 drinks anight is considered a pretty heavy load.If problems aren't already ocurring as a result (such as abuse, accidents etc.) trust me they will in time.

Are you worried only because she is drinking? Or is something else happening when she drinks? If it calms her down and she still takes care of the house, the family, and her job... then you should quit worrying about it.
I'm not saying it's a good thing. Too much drinking can be a big problem... you are right about that. But remember that alcohol is legal for adults over 21. And a working mother DOES have a lot of stress, so if it helps her, makes her happy, and isn't hurting anybody, then, as her child, you should just deal with it.
If, however, there are serious family problems being caused by this, then you should ask her to see a doctor for a better way to calm herself. Just be very careful and respectful to her, she is your mother, whether she is right or wrong.
Maybe there is something you could offer to do for her, or with her, that would help relieve her stress over all the work she has to do?

She's an alcoholic. She needs to admit her problem and admit to needing help. Are you underage? If so, call family. You need to get out of the house. If you are an adult, you still need to get out of the house. Your mother won't stop until she hits bottom and she won't hit bottom until she no longer has a crutch to lean on. It's tough love, and sometimes that's the only way it can be.

I saw something on Law and Order SVU once about something called ALATEEN or something ... its a support organization of teenagers who are around alcohol abuse... try it out, im sure they could help more than any one of us here... and she may resist at first, but hopefully she'll c the amazing child she's raised and stop for u.
