What Did I Do Today?

Today I left some dishes dirty,
The bed got made around 3:30.
The diapers soaked a little longer,
The odor grew a little stronger.
The crumbs I spilled the day before
Are staring at me from the floor.
The fingerprints there on the wall
Will likely be there still next fall.
The dirty streaks on those windowpanes
Will still be there next time it rains.
Shame on you, you sit and say,
Just what did you do today?

I held a baby till she slept,
I held a toddler while she wept.
I played a game of hide and seek,
I squeezed a toy so it would squeak.
I pulled a wagon, sang a song,
Taught a child right from wrong.
What did I do this whole day through?
Not much that shows, I guess that's true.
Unless you think that what I've done,
Might be important to someone
With deep blue eyes and soft blonde hair,
If that is true...I've done my share

Thank You so much for posting this........My husband never asks or even hints that I don't do enough around the house, but I am always trying to explain why not much got done. I feel as if being a stay at home mom I have to keep the house spottless and dinner done by a certain time and its just not like that. I so much rather giver my daughter all my attention and love.

Thank you so much for the reminder of what is important. I am currently waiting for the laundry to finish (at 12:18 am) and I think I will go to bed soon so I can be energetic and ready for my baby tomorrow morning.

Very good!! Did you write it yourself? It's great.

Ahhhh.... I remember the times I would play with my kids all day and just let them have fun without following them around and picking up after them. Sometimes, they seemed like raccoons!!

Daddy would walk in and get his nose out of joint. But we survived. He was/is in the construction field, and I worked part time, so sometimes he would be home with them. It was totally different then... he followed them around all day and fussed at them, poor things. LOL.

That is probably the neatest thing I've read in a long time. Thank you for reminding me why we became moms in the first place.

I know. I hate when my husband asks me that question. If only men had to be in a mother's shoes for one day, they would see how much harder our job is than they could ever imagine. Thankyou for sharing.

That was just lovely!
Here's another you might enjoy (I have this on a sign in my very messy living room):

Sweeping and cleaning can wait 'till tomorrow,
'Cause babies grow up,
We've learned to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs,
Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby,
And babies don't keep.

Most men couldn't handle the day-to-day activities of a stay at home mom. They'd be BEGGIN' to go back to work!

That's why we don't give birth, we couldn't handle it.

Kudos to you!
