I would assume anything in the house conveyed with the house, so legally the money is yours. If you feel guilty about that, you could try to research who owned the house in the past and track down the owners or the heirs. However, I don't think you are under any legal obligation to do so. Even if the money was stolen, I imagine the statute of limitations on the crime is long over. If you keep the money, you might want to investigate whether it has historical value above the face value.
I hope for your sake that Ryan C is wrong with his counterfeit theory! Better have them checked out!

The dryer sheet does artwork yet another theory is to take a paper towel and spray it with a fabric deodorizer, placed it the paper towel on a wash fabric and set it interior the backside of the handbag - close it up and circulate away it for an afternoon or so. additionally, if the interior is leather-based and not lined then you could additionally use some saddle cleansing soap and sparkling it. it will nevertheless scent like leather-based despite if it heavily isn't musty.

I've seen a case like this before. If I remember correctly because the money was in the house (outbuildings) when you purchased the house, the find legally belongs to you. You bought the house, the garage and everything contained therein.
It would be interesting to google your area for crimes in that time frame.
I don't think I would turn it in, who would claim it 60 years later?

Since you bought the place, they are yours.
Now, if the are as new as you say, don't tell anyone how many you have and sell them to numismatic collectors. Probably get a lot more than face value for them unless they find out you have a thousand of them.

They are counterfeit. If you have seen any movie leather bags equal mobs. Mobs equal nice clothing and organized crime. Being organized means you stack money nicely. 50 dollar bills are nice and large, but just small ought to counterfeit and get them flowing through places without much fuss. COUNTERFEIT!

Turn them in? To whom? Do you own the house.? If so the bills are yours to keep. If someone else owns the house, the bills belong to the owner.

So, you have a wife and a girlfriend? I think you should give a thousand to your girlfiend to get some therapy, cause if she's having sex with her brother, she needs it. And give the rest to you're wife, she's goint to get it in the end when she divorces your *** for cheating on her anyway!
