No, its very impolite...and hateful. Your daughter has made her decision and you have NO RIGHT to make her feel guilty about it. You will end up driving a wedge between you and your daughter and you may never get to see your grandchildren. Be an adult, and accept the fact that your daughter is grown and able to make her own decisions......and realize that if it turns out to be a bad one, let HER figure that out....DO NOT influence her by calling her husband an idiot......that's RUDE!!!

Well, I think it's not a nice thing to do but it's not uncommon for name calling between the in-laws. I would certainly discourage it.

Polite? No, it's not. But...he must be a real idiot.
You say you refer to him by that name, do you say it to his face?

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable being called that by my motherinlaw. My husband wouldn't be ok with his mother calling me that either.
I know it's not supposed to be offensive or anything but it just doesn't feel like the right thing to call someone.

lol - It's all in your head, J/K... As long as he doesn't know! If I were the son-in-law and you called me that, I'd be furious. Best thing to do, don't do it!

Depends...does he know he's an idiot? LOL I have a brother-in-law, that I know my mother-in-law would not think twice about introducing him as her idiot-in-law...and his family too! lol

It depends on the situation - if he did something really stupid and even he knew it and it was said in a loving way yes it would be OK.
