There is red for Wales, blue for Scotland and red for England so why not green for Ireland?

The Union flag is an amalgam of the crosses of St George (for England), St Andrew (for Scotland) and a third which is assumed to be for St Patrick (for Northern Ireland) but, in fact, is taken from the FitzGerald family emblem because there is no St Patrick's cross in heraldry.

Paul B is right. It's Wales which is not represented on the Union flag. The thing is a nonsense. We should get rid of the whole thing and start again from scratch but not with Saints. How about four coloured ribbons in a huge granny-knot?

For the same reason red, white and blue are not on the Irish flag. Ireland is an independent republic and not under the rule of the British crown, unlike Northern Ireland, which obviously is, to the chagrin of many.

The reason being is that Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is and their flag is the same as England with a fist in the middle.

no because ireland is seperate from great britain. The statement Northern Ireland is part of Great Britain is a political one, not stone fact.

The countries are not represented by colours - but by the crosses on the flag btw. st andrews cross for scotland - st george cross for england .

Umm - Sorry to break up the party but Ireland is not part of the UK (North Ireland is)

Ireland - Orange, green, white (green)
North Ireland (UK) - Red, White, Blue (blue)

If you've ever heard of the IRA, Shin Fenh, Ulster Alliance, Uster Freedom Fighters then you will know there has been a war going on for decades (currently well kinda ish not fighting up there ish)

I think you need to read up a bit more on the above flag my friend.

Here are a few points.

1. It is known officially as the Union Flag (The flag of the union of Great Britain). It is only known as The Union Jack whilst flown from the bow of a ship.

2. The red has nothing to do with the Union Flag. Its is not amalgimated into the flag.

3. Irleand (Eire) cannot be part of the Union Flag as it is not part of the Union.

There is the cross of St George for England, the corss of St Andrew for Scotland, and the cross of St Patrick for Ireland. It's Wales who aren't represented. Anyway, it's dated - the majority of Irish citizens don't want to be associated with the Britain.

Note to Ziggy Bulldust: Northern Ireland might be part of the UK, but it is NOT part of Britain. Get your facts right.

Oh dear, where to start... There is green in the Irish flag, but that is another country altogether. Why would it go in the Union Flag (it is only called a Union Jack when flown from a warship)... We already have a bad enough anthem, why go messing with a bit of cloth?

Ireland is not part of the UK but if you meant Northern Ireland the flag there is white and red so colours which already exist in the British flag so your question is nil and void.
