I was going to give tm tech the best answer but he gave no reasons or facts based on his response.. Much like most republicans that avoid facts or lengthly explainations because thinking that much might either reveal the truth or fry their simple minds..

The republican party touts lower taxes and less government. They really mean less outgo for the wealthier members of society and less government regulation on industries that republicans have interest in. Both major political parties are self serving, and the republicans preach smaller government, but more military, more cops, more prisons, more punishment, less assistance to the less capable members of our society. The republican party's purpose is to put more money into the hands of businessmen and investors and less into running the government. So, bucking all economists advice, they borrow the money they need from Chinese banks, and know that when a democratic majority is in power, they will raise taxes to pay off the debt the republicans generated. They can then point the "higher tax" finger at the other party and use it politically. People in this country believe that if they act like wealthy people, they will become wealthy people, so, like the wealthy, they vote republican. The democratic party, on the other hand, feeds the hands of their supporters by balancing (or attempting to) the budget, then directing finances to organizations that do the kind of work the party endorses. Could be a charity, or Public television or whatever. Republicans like to throw the Socalist label at democrats and democrats like to throw the elitist label at republicans. In truth, they are not much different.

While most people are wise enough to ignore what people say, and pay attention to what they do, the Conservatives are tied into the ideological speak that comes from the stand that the Republicans make. They actually think that they too will be rich if they keep the GOP in office long enough. They do not understand that it is not in the best interest of the GOP that the base actually succeeds. For the GOP supporters all that is important is that the leadership say the right things that make them feel good. It is not a matter what is done or not done. This comes directly from their religious expression which is about faith and speech and not actions.

It's about the issues. The moment it becomes about something other than the issues, there are bigger problems to deal with.

They don't represent only 5% of the richest people while screwing everyone else. They believe that everyone should make their own way and not depend on the government to support them. Everyone is given an equal chance to make something of themselves. Those that are successful and make a lot of money should not be required to support people who do nothing or do just enough to get by.

A "clean" conscious.

As a well off Redpublican I say Shhhhh don't tell them.

I'm not anywhere close to Kennedy or Bush money but comfortable with 7 figures. Fact is they treat me like a second class citizen. I play the race card and tease them but a few million bucks is nothing to the Redpublican insiders.

Read a book called What's the Matter with Kansas by Thomas Frank, which attempts to answer that very question. Basically, he says that the Republicans have succeeded in getting people to vote against their own economic self interest by emphasizing the social issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc.

Because Republicans are SO smart that even though they are only 5% of the population they are able to swing the election and win. How else could Bush have been elected??? Certainly not by the other 95% of the population!

Funny, most of the famously, rich people like Bill Gates, George Soros, and Teresa Heinz Kerry seem to vote Democrat. Could it be that they have already tucked their millions/billions safely in foreign bank accounts, where it will be safe from the taxman?

Let’s face it, democrats like these are more that happy to tax the middle-class to keep them out their club.

I'm a liberal who tends to lean democrat, and I don't care much for the Republican party at all, but even I know that the current adminstration is an embarrasment to them too. Why else would approval ratings be so low?

Here is something for your simple mind, Kerry married Heinz, they are both rich, you voted for him, he wants more of your ketchup money. All policitians are currupt, you are buying into a load of crapp when you think a democrat is really on your side. Business provides jobs, demoacrats provide welfare. Are you a welfare rat? Get a job and thank a republican.

So does that mean that the Democrats represented 95% of the richest people that are screwing everyone else?
