I know he has joined because the sign-on window is on the computer when we log on? I have browsed the site and cannot find. I think it may be because he is only 16. I am a hands on parent and this will clue me in as to what is going on in his life. No, I do not want to invade his privacy, just protect him.

try a search for his name?

I don't think you're wrong at all. I monitor my daughters net usage very closely. She know I check history and her instant messenger is logged. I also block her from sites and she is not allowed to have a blog site. I have seen end results of net bullying, pedophile trolling...not my kid. No way.

As she gets older, I will modify the control levels but for now, I prefer to be safe than sorry.

Good parenting is not a bad thing and don't let people tell you otherwise.

there is a site called "CyberNet". you can find many programs at Best Buy or whatever electronic store is near you. you can buy these programs and download them on your system. ALL of his MySpace will come to your e-mail and you can monitor all of his correspondence. DON'T you ever think this has not become a serious problem for our children. Predators everywhere. I am writing from Texas and we have already lost 2 girls by murder thru MySpace and predators that have found them thru this system. 2 days ago an undercover unit intercepted a 45-yr old male that thought he was talking to a 14 yr. old female. he drove over 100 miles to meet with her and they found a digital camera, nylon rope, handcuffs and a gun wrapped up in a towel in his trunk. he is now off of the streets. i know you don't want to invade his privacy, but at the same time this has really gotten all out of hand with this MySpace and our children just don't understand the consequences that could possibly be out there for them. these predators are very smart and know how to reach them mentally. you have every right to know what your child is doing and to protect him. that is your job as a mother and a parent. look into those programs.

i circulate to be blunt with you. forget approximately it. Your son isn't the single in contact with this female, so that's no longer something to do with you. there is not any longer something you may, or would desire to, do approximately this different boy's dating. you need to be very much shocked to pay attention this, despite if that's no longer that unusual for a teenger to get entangled with a youthful person. yet pondering the boy is obviously consenting to despite's happening, what's the harm? no one's in possibility or getting harm. Sticking your foot in would only make you appear to be a fool. final element - what the hell are you doing logging into your son's fb website? would you do an identical to a distinctive person? Or greater helpful, how would you sense in case you found out your son were snooping around (that's, that's snooping, and exceptionally decietful) and "checking up" on you? supply him some independence and privateness. becoming up is a mild technique, no longer an in one day substitute-over between 17 and 18.

I understand where you are coming from...but maybe you shouldn't check up on him. I mean there is stuff on my myspace that I don't want my parents 2 see but its all innocent. A couple curse words. A little innuendo. But I am not chatting to stalkers and posting pictures of myself drinking, yet my parents would freak out if they saw my page. Just the fact that I know the word damn would shock them.

But I know you want to keep him away from drugs but you gotta say to yourself how much will I overact to what I see? If you see "Lil Johnny" chatting to someone who's profile pic bares all? Or that he has a potty mouth online? Little things like that should be ignored because Lil Johnny is talking to his friends like that too. But if he's discussing raping lil Tina down the street you gotta make an intervention. You gotta discern between what's ignorable and what should be looked into.

Just know that if you invade his privacy with force he's never going to willingly tell you anything. Looking at a person's myspace is akin to reading their diary. It has their innermost thoughts on it. SO be careful.

There are programs you can install to retrace all the movements on a computer. I don't know the name but you could ask a software security expert to suggest some alternatives.
Check, with myspace about policies regarding minors and tell them your concern.

Your son will probably not like it at all.

First, ask him about it. No need to go behind his back. Second there are many different ways to search on Myspace. By full name, email address, website name.
