Find out what agencies are listed under your state. I used to work for the state of Washington, under an agency called SOLA. I worked as a CNA and the starting wage was $12.07/hr. I had to start as an "intermittent" because they have regulations in order to have a "permanent" position. But I still got 40 hrs. a week. After 18 months, I had enough hours to apply for a permanent position and I was successful. Once permanent, job security is 100%. I worked there for 3 years and when I left there, I was making $14.50/hr. The only sad thing about great jobs like that, it they come with all the "politics"...

Contact the local Home Health Care agencies near you. Sometimes, those patients who are being cared for by nursing staff can offer positions for patients who may not require "RN" attention. On top of your CNA position, you may be able to pick up some "home visits" from those agencies. Maybe that would bring up you income to a better level for you.
I applaud what you're doing. You are correct; that situation is difficult. I was in the same boat you are when I was in college. Hang in there. You can do this!!!!

Sell tshirt printing! I own a tshirt printing company near San Antonio, Texas. I am looking for a straight commission salesperson. All you have to do is let pass out business cards, let people know that you can offer a service. Be an order taker. Where you are located doesn't matter. On a 100 shirt order, for instance, I pay a $100 commission. My prices are good, quality too. You can do this on your own time, and age doesn't matter. Contact me if I can help.

If you're already in that field you might want to look into becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician. You should already know sig codes and medications, just study a bit for the test and become certified and you should be able to make around $12.00/hour. Good luck!

1. Look in your Sunday newspaper. Quite often the pay is listed.
2. The internet is another option. Post your resume on Monster.com.
3. Sign up on-line with lnewspapers in your area so you can check their classified listings.
4. Sometimes local cable channels also feature local jobs (at least one day per week).

Look into the construction field. Welding pays well if you have the skill. Anything that has some skill attached to it that not just anyone can do will pay fairly well. Anyone can pump gas, and so the pay is low. Do you want fries with that job application?

Begging is a lucrative business as well.
Lets say a homeless person makes X dollars (on average) for every 10 people per hour and he begs Y amount (on average) of people every hour
lets say they do about Z hours of begging per week. Also, keep in mind that there are 52 weeks in a year
that means their annual income is (X/10)*Y*Z*52 = X*Y*Z*5.2
so if they beg about 20 hours per week (thats 2.85 hours per day)
and get about 2 dollars for every 10 people
and get about 30 people per hour (2 people per minute)
thus he makes 6 dollars per hour (more than minimum wage)
he can make 2*30*20*5.2=6,240 anually
if he were to invest the same amout of time that a regular worker does which is usually 40 hours per week and begs in a crowded place (NYC subway or something) and has really convincing stories (I need money for gas, my kid is sick, etc)
he could make $10 per 10 people (1 dollar per person, maybe too high) and lets say hes gets about 40 people per hour, 40 bucks per hour
he'd make 10*40*40*5.2=83200 dollars per year
Also, this is disregarding welfare and food stamps that he may have as well.
some one check the math, 83200 per year begging 40 hours per week sounds too good to be true. Thats probably the 99.999% percentile of income of all beggars.
damn, I sound like a conservative. Anyhow, my numbers maybe wrong. Somebody correct me.

Have you checked with a staffing service. They often pay more for CENAs than a nursing home. Also, are there other nursing homes or hospitals in the area that you could check with?
