The 3 friends paid $10 each because the hotel worth $30, the manager returned $5 back, but the manager's assistant kept $2 & gave the other $3 to the friends ($1 for each guy). So, each guy really paid $9 each for the hotel, which was 3 times $9 = $27, plus $2 the assistant kep = $29. Where is the Missing Dollar? Because they paid $30.

They gave 30, they got 3 dollars back. Therefore they only paid 27 for the room. 25 ended up in the drawer and 2 in the guys pocket. Nice mathematical misdirection, but the 2 should be added to the 25, not the 27.

The missing dollar was the .33 cents divided among the 3 friends. Consider it tax. 30 -5 = 25 +2= 27 / 3 =9 yet if you just do 30 - 2(the amount the assistant kept) = 28 /3 it equals the 9.3333. that each friend paid.

They paid 30, but they each got $1 back, so they paid 27. But the hotel only got $25. The other 2 were kept by the assistant.

if you take the original $30 then subtract $5 but add the $2 the assistant manager kept you end up with $27 plus the $3 that was returned to the friends you end up with $30 so there really isnt a missing dollar its just in how you look at the problem

No missing dollar.

The $2 that the assistant stole is not supposed to be added to the total that the friends paid. The friends paid a total of $27.

$27 plus the $3 they got back = the original $30.

That assistant needs to be fired for stealing $2 from the friends !!!!!!!!

The hotel only ended up costing $25. He gave $5 back but kept $2 and gave $3 back to the friends which equals $30.

Well actually, they paid $27 for the room. Because $30-5 = $25. Add the $2 to that and you get $27. Divide $27/$3 and you get $9. Dont get it twisted.

Makes no sense your way. Each paid $10 = $30-
Manager gave back $5 = $25
Asst. $2 = $27
Leaves $3- one for each
Where is the question?

It actually works the other way around. It's 9 each, which is $27, minus 2, which is 25. 25 + the 5 extra = $30.

Your math is wrong, they paid $25 for the room, They each got to keep one dollar and 2 dollars went to the assistant. So they really paid $27 dollars for the room and tip.
