My wife's friend is totally immune to aneasthetic, general or local. She also has a thyroid problem, and had to have a slive of eyelid removed. They could not knock her out at all, nor numb the pain. Poor lass.

I have had 3 C-sections 1 asleep, 2 awake. I didn't notice a difference in the healing times they were about the same. I would have prefer ed to be asleep for all 3 but they wouldn't do it. They told me it was better for the babies if I was awake. The first one was an emergency that is the only reason I got put to sleep.
I had epidurals for all 3 C-sections.
I did find the pain worse after the hysterectomy but had no epidural and was asleep for that one.
I was home on day 5 after all the operations.

i did a local anaesthetic because hte general was unavailable on that day when they operated on me for a detached retina;unfortunately as in the previous two days a couple of workmen had thrown me outof bed to repair the windows towhich they then did not attach the handles and did not refit the curtains on the hottest two days in history i was quite mad from sleep deprivation by the time i got to the table and fell asleep during the op and fro eighteen hours afterward;at he end of which i woke up extremely groggy and angry like a bear coming out of hibernation and told the nurse i had had enuff of her
no one seemed to think any of this was in any odd and i guess it really does not answer your question although a general is always worht avoiding in terms of risk

Why were you so scared to have anesthesia? This isn't a question though, so why are you posting it with a question mark? Oh wait, finally saw the real question a few lines in... most people don't stay awake except for C-sections.

I was awake for one of my c-sections and for 8 of my 11 hand surgeries. It was interesting to watch.

I was awake for a c-section. But they put this screen , so I couldn't watch , that disappointed me. But i was walking around faster than if I had been asleep. epideral wears off faster.

Sounds good that you are well. I hope that everything keeps going well for you. I had to do this for a knee surgery. It does make things a little clearer and no stomach problems.
