Because people in general need to treat others badly to validate their own presumably pathetic lives. You will find that people who are happy or content with how they live will not attempt to demean another person's lifestyle.
On top of that, add the media portrayal of gamers as lonely nerds. Obviously, they've GOT to get more game-con pictures out in mainstream, because most of the gamers I know are hot, or have hot significant others, as well as have decent jobs and social interaction.
Gonna give my advice- ignore them and wear your Blizzard t-shirt proudly. If it's your non-gaming friends giving you crap, then you need to re-evaluate why they're your friends.
I'm with ya, sister.

This roots from the fact that the roots of video games were towards younger gamers, (Example: Frogger for atari and Mario for Nintendo). With this ideal, people didn't realize that with improving technology and a wider range of options, gaming has moved more towards adult gamers. The average age of gamers are from 16-35 nowadays, not 5-10. Now, know that people think video games were originally intended for children, and didn't follow video games themselves, still probably think video games are for children. Also, people have a tendency to shun things they don't understand. You cannot throw an amatuer into Grand Theft Auto and expect them to beat the game, let alone even be able to manage the onslaught of buttons, and don't even get me started about PC games. Most people barely understand a PC by itself, let alone the games that can be played on it. Anyone that bashes you, let them know that games have come a long way, and that it is more skill than button mashing anymore. People that have made a living playing video games have won up to $1,000,000 (that's right, one million) in tournaments. And that doesn't sound like childs play to me.

Again, it's all about the stereotypes. There are perfectly normal, and actually quite attractive people who play this game. I know several of them. I play also on the Garona server and lead a pretty normal life as well. There are a lot of people with addictive personalities out there though that truly can have problems with this game, those are the ones you always hear about and feed the stereotype.

I play DDO and I used to play Guildwars. I am married, and my husband got me into playing the games so we could play together. It may sound corny, but when you have 3 kids, and all you want to do is relax, have fun, and privacy is out of the question....the games provide that. I also work full time, have a clean house and hang out with my friends on the weekends...I think I have a pretty good "life". and I am not a sad loser...lol

I don't play WoW, but I do consider myself a heavy gamer and I have a life out of video games. I have a girlfriend (3 years), workout 3 times a week, go to church twice a week, work a 9-5 job Mon-Fri, have great friends & family, and still manage to play Final Fantasy XI Online and Halo2 on my 360, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth on my PSP, and Pokemon Ruby on my DS Lite. I think people who put down gamers either just don't get how awesome being a gamer is, or they are just plain jealous/in denial of themselves.

It's just a stupid stereo type. A lot of people play online games, and are just regular people, but that's the way any stereo type works. Ignore people who give you **** about it, they are obviously just being dumb about it. People bash everything, it's just how life goes.

They're jealous of people with other interests.
They also lack imagination. I mean, the "mother's basement" slam is as old and lame as Internet insults get

It's because of the stereotype against nerdy people.
WoW people are stereotyped into this group
