In New York State, any one who has graduated from high school or has their GED is automatically accepted into Community College. You may have to take some remedial classes in English or math that you will have to pay for but would not get credit for but it will not really hold you back too much.
Go for it! After graduating from Community College you can easily transfer to a 4 year school to finish your teaching degree.

I teach elementary school. We can always use good teachers! I'm sure you can contact a community college and start classes with a GED. Ask to make an appt. with a counselor and they'll help you through the registration process and all that. However, you won't be able to become a teacher with an AA degree (two year degree). You'll need a BA (four year degree) to be a teacher, regardless of grade level you wish to teach. But start at the community college level and get the "basic classes" out of the way. Then you can transfer to a university and take the "core classes". Depending on where you live, some state universities allow "automatic" transfers from state community colleges. Meaning you wouldn't have to apply to go to the state university if you graduate from the community college in the same state. Check it out first.
Good luck!

A GED is just as good as a diploma. For instance my ex is a teacher, she got her GED at age 16, went to college graduated at 19, and was teaching by the time she was 21. There's a stigma put on GED's but there are many different reasons people get them - some people dropped out, some people were advanced enough to skip out on the horrible experience that is high school. I wish I had thought of getting a GED rather than going all 4 years.

Sorry, read the question wrong. Yes, you can go to college with a GED. Start at a community college, then transfer to a 4 year.

Yup. Go to a junior college and get the preliminary classes out of the way...basic math, English, etc. Then go on to a 4 year school. You will probably be a good, compassionate teacher. There needs to be more out there. You will know what shortcomings there were in your education and see that it doesn't happen to someone else. Good luck

yes I think you can.. but the community college can only take you so far on the courses you will need to be a teacher. You will have to transfer later to another college..Talk to a counselor from your local Community College about this..they can give you answers.. Good Luck with your career.

Yes, you can go to a two year community college first to get an associates degree and then transfer your credits over to a University to get your education degree. good luck finding a job, hopefully your not in Michigan, there is no teaching jobs available. Also, special education is in big demand.

Of course. Attend a good community college and then transfer to a four year. Make sure they have a transfer agreement, which means that they don't require many things that you might not have, such as SAT scores. Good luck!

Absolutely... I would recommend trying to volunteer in a classroom close to you... just to make sure!
A GED is a good start and going to community college would be a logical first step. Just be patient and focus on your dream... good luck!
