My foot is a little swollen and i get a sharp pain when i walk on it. i dont think its broken but now im convinced it's something because it was 2 weeks ago when it happened and its still the same. i dont have health insurance so i waited to see if it was ok first. Ive never broken anything but it hurt extremely bad for HOURS when it first happened. Im not sure if the er will ex ray it because it doesnt look THAT swollen but it definitely is in the area that it hurts and it sometimes hurts more on some says and i definitely cant and dont want to walk on it. i think it really needs to be looked at.....any thoughts?

Probably not broken, but could be , only an xray will say. Ligimets and tendons have a poor blood supply and take a long time to heal.

Remember RICE with soft tissue injuries

Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate

Spell the alphabet with your foot to keep the range of motion good.

Point tenderness is a sign of a fracture, like say one spot has a real sharp pain when touched.

You don't say what happened, though. Did you injure it or drop something on it?

My thought would be to go to the ER. They can bill you and as long as you pay a little on it each month, you'll be fine.

You need an x-ray if you can't walk on it. If you don't get it checked and it's fractured, it will heal wrong and you'll always have problems with it.

Good luck!

No hun, you're foot isn't broken... BELIEVE ME! I've been down the broken foot road... if it was broken, you wouldn't be able to walk on it AT ALL! I mean, if you even tried, you'd be able to feel it broken. And the ER will definately X-Ray it. Hospitals can't turn away patients.

You should have had it X-rayed right away. Could be a hairline fracture. If you are dead set against going to the hospital, then at least get an air cast and keep your weight off of it (do you have crutches?)

I would see a doctor and stop walking on it ask around for someone who will give you crutches or sell you some. when i broke my big toe (yeah i know it sounds weird) my toes were all black and blue but it healed in three weeks but it was a very tiny fracture maybe it will take a bit longer o heal just let it rest you should be fine.

go to the er, they cant refuse you, there is a federal law stating so, and they have to post it, and yes they will xray it to make sure it isnt broken.
besides, you might meet a cute doctor *giggle*

It could be both, but the foot is likely sprained, mostly.
