Norton is not a good security suite, nor is Symantic which are both one and the same. Norton does not detect many things, like spyware, adware, or other malware, only updates its virus files once a month, which is just lame.

I highly reccommend Panda. Panda is a full security suite and detects all malware, including Trojans, Spyware, Adware, and all other malwares. If you use Outlook or Outlook Express, it integrates into those programs and protects them. It will also integrate with any and all Instant Messeging programs you have protecting from infection, malicious code, trojans, secret unsolicited software downloads, etc.

It has the full compliment of features, including a great firewall, and employer/parental controls. It runs quietly in the background without any fuss or interaction needed from the administrator after you first configure it.

If you want to try out the newest Microsoft Security Suite try the free trial period of Windows Live Safety Suite. I have heard great reports about it.

If you utilize the Live Safety Scan on the Microsoft website do not allow the scan to automatically clean out your registry. Doing so is highly risky and can mistakenly remove viable registry keys to programs used every day. It did this to me, and thank goodness I did the back up as I was no longer able to get updates for any of my office programs. I went for assistance from Microsoft and was directed to merge my backup into the registry, and this fixedd the problem. I was them advised to not use that feature again.

As this program is giving you such fits, remove it and find a different program which will do its job. Sometimes systems can be delicate creatures and require some tender consideration. When a computer decides it just doesn't like a certain software program it is much less hassle to get rid of it than mess with it over a long period of time, hoping it will straighten out and fly right. It just doesn't usually work that way. Once a program begins giving a system fits, it is best to get an update from the manufacturer of just remove it and find a different one. Try the update from the manufacturer first, sometimes that will fix it. Plus the update should be free while a new program will cost a bit of money. Only spend the money on a new program when the update doesn't do the trick.

Good luck fixing this program.

It might not be a virus but it can be spyware or any sort of malware. Due to which it does not detect when you run the norton scanner. To be very frank I personally do not like nortan since I had bad experience with it. I to was a Nortan fan for 7 years but finally agreed it does not do the job.
And the reason you get the error msg as you have mentioned above is because it might be used by the windows in background. First try and stop it and then delete id manually.
Hope it work's out for you.
