I believe that many formalities are no longer practiced. There seems to be an idea that if you are polite- you are disingenuous. I think it all falls alongside the postmodern way of thinking. Rules for their own sake are no longer accepted and swallowed whole the way they once were....
for better or worse.

Well, my first response was to post a rude, thoughless comment, as I am sure you will get. After some thought, I would have to say that, yes it has. Just the other day while on my way home from work, there was a lot of construction going on. Every body ele on the road and including me saw the signs and started to meger into the open lane. 1 guy did not, he sped up and he tried to get in front of me with out even signaling. When I did not let him in because of his inconsidration, he honked at me and got on my tail. Why was he so importan, he could not start mergeing early like everyone else?
How about standing in line. The guy gets behind you and starts to get antsy because you have more items then him.
This world would be a much nicer place if people would be polite to one and other.

Yes, I believe the most basic of politeness has gone by the wayside.I am even guilty of being rude now and again. I try though to be a nice person overall and to leave a good impression on others whether I know them or not. I have also noticed I get a more positive response if I smile at people before I even speak. Maybe smiling is the key here, it sure can't hurt now can it?

Basic politeness has become extinct. People are in too big of a hurry these days to think about the feelings of family and friend much less strangers. This is a subject that really annoys me. I work customer service and it blows my mind how rude people are when they call. I really want to know what harm it would do for people to slow down and use a little common courtesy.

Overall, no I don't believe so. I live in NYC and even amongst millions of people, politeness is still abundant, in my view anyway. I also have lived in the South where people are always very polite, all of the time. I've only encountered a few rude people, and I think that the experience is so unusual that it becomes upsetting and therefore we remember it more so than we remember all of our polite encounters.

i think that it is still out there, just not as much as it was 10, 20, or more years ago---i personally was raised that you are polite all the time--that there is never a time to not be polite (you can ream someone through politeness lol), i still say yes ma'am and sir, thank you, bless you, i open doors for people, help the elderly etc---some have it some dont---i however am also trying to teach my kids, and i dont like the way the kids are now a days, so i teach what i was taught

What I don't like is that RSVP doesn't seem to mean anything on an invitation anymore. I think it is so rude not to tell someone you are or are not coming to a party. I miss a lot of those polite things!

Yes. I've been rude all day. I get sick of certain groups of people having special rights and constantly making demands but being unwilling to follow the rules and earn them. So I get a little rude. As to the main point of your question, yeah. People tend to be ruder. They make demands and oh yeah. I said all that. They throw their garbage on the ground.

I think it has.... i think its because everyone thinks they are some kind of badass, in a hurry or talking over the internet and who needs politeness in any of those situations? Not very many people have good manners anymore....
