The play maintains till over. Ex. runner could thieve, the toddler at third can circulate homestead. If the ball is hit into play runners could strengthen. After the play, the batter is provided first base, all forced runners strengthen, and a runner stealing gets that base loose. surely, the offense gets the superb a possibility state of affairs from the play or the interference. The catcher gets an blunders. The hitter gets an AB basically for the point of qualification the place a minimum is needed, yet otherwise would not count variety against him.

If a batter swings and contacts the catcher's mitt, it is a dead ball and the batter gets first base.
You may remember those plastic flaps that used to dangle from the older style catcher's helmets - they were developed by Steve Yeager after a piece of a broken bat bounced off the ground and back into his throat. Not a good thing.
Catchers take quite a few foul balls at higher levels of baseball. The equipment does a good job, but if you take one off the mask, you'll feel it for an inning or more - TRUST ME!

Kind of different from the rest, but back when the Phillies farm club was in Maine (the guides) I saw Ricky Jordan swing and on his follow through hit the catcher in the back of the head. The catcher had to be helped off the field and spent the night in the hospital with a concussion.

Victor Martinez of the Cleveland Indians was hit by a bat in the hand and had to be benched the the rest of the game.
Also one time the Indians were playing the Seattle Mariners and an Indian's player plunked the catcher twice in one swing.

I've seen it once .. while the guy was swinging the catcher jumped up to throw out the attempted stealer going to secong .. It mostly hit his glove, and he stayed in the game ..
Oh ... and just commenting on a answer you put on the "pitcher MVP???" question .. you said beckett was,.. no i think the person asking the question was talking about season MVP's not World Series MVP's.

During the 60"s Juan Marichal was batting and during a argument with the Dodgers catcher he turned around and hit him on the head with the bat.

Actually, Matt, I can think of about 50 pitchers in the AL better than Beckett.
He might improve if he didn't pitch for the Red Sux.
