Just go and get yourself "lost" for a couple hours and then when you come strolling home say you were lost and hopefully they will come up with the conclusion theirselves to get you a cell phone. Or a 2nd idea is go get a job (babysitting, washing cars...) and pay for it yourself. Be a well respected teenager who is going to be an adult so act like one

On a family plan Verizon will add an extra phone for only 9.99. The amount of minutes on the plan will cost according to the plan they choose. A good way to ask for one is to suggest it would be good for your safety and it has GPS tracking so you could be found if you were abducted. A cell phone will also be useful if you get hurt on your bike. I always carry one when I ride my bike and I am 53. I have crashed and wound up in a hospital. The cell phone came in handy. But don't abuse it. And don't do what one of my nieces does and loose the phone. Also offer to do an extra chore around the house to help pay back for the privilege of having it. I take it you are too young to have a job. Adults have to do this type of negotiation at their jobs to get raises. Now is the time to learn to negotiate. basic rules of a sale ( you are selling them on this idea) Break the ice, Tell your dad how smart he is or ask your mom if she's lost weight.. you know make em' happy. (Qualify) Find out what would they want if you were to get the phone. (Pitch) ask for the phone and pitch the safety features GPS ,they will be able to find you when they want you.Parents are most afraid of you being abducted. Fear of loss sells things.( CLOSE) ask for the phone. Do your homework look on the web site of www.Verizonwireless.com and see how much it is in your area and what promotions are available. You might be able to find a better deal and save them money. Everyone wants to save money.

My best advide to any kid out there who wants a cell phone is this. Get a job and pay for it yourself. A cell phone is too easy a luxury for children to abuse. Now it sounds like you aren't asking for all the bells and whistles all the 7 year old rich kids have on their Sidekick3's so that may help convinve your parents to let you get a simple basic phone. Check out any carrier's website and do some research. If they are on Verizon it would cost them like $10 to add you, plus the cost of the phone if they are on a family share plan.

If they already have phones and have a "family plan," the cost should be nominal to add you on as well.

Not sure how old you are, but that might be the only reason they would say no. Just ask. Worst that could happen is you'll be in the same situation you are now--phoneless.

Find an inexpensive phone off ebay, craigslist ... more

Start with a pre-pay cellular plan. Just load up some minutes as you need them. Your folks can then determine if your phone usage was justified. If not, they can cut the service.

or

They could add you to their existing cellphone plan with a Firefly cell phone.

Thy asking them to try you on a pre-paid plan first. That's what I did for my 3 daughters. A year later at ages 13,12 and 10 they have there own phones. But be sure to do all your chores, home work and listen to your parents..=)

this probley won't work, but you can just say that if you're walking or riding home, and no one's around, and you fall off and break your leg or somethin', that you'll need one because, well, no one's around to help you. It could happen. But the chances of this are very slim. Gettin' the phone I mean.

consider asking for a prepay phone, but most phone companies, like the one you speak of, will add a new line to an existing account for $10 a month
