The baby needs a passport and has to be 3 months old to fly from what I have been told something to do with baby's eardrums.

Whenever the passport comes in. Apply for the baby's passport now, and when it gets there you can plan your trip. It's not true that you have to have a notarized paper to travel alone with your baby, just a current passport for the child, but both parents do have to be present when submitting the paperwork to apply for a passport, if one parent cannot be present, there is a form that has to be signed by the absent parent in front of a notary public. You will need a social security number to get the baby's passport, and don't forget to already have the passport photos with you when you take the application in.

And make sure the Dr. says the baby is old enough to travel, a newborn shouldn't be traveling, but after a couple of months it should be okay.

You could also help your mother-in-law pay for tickets to come visit you.

I took my son to another country when he was 5 months old. I made sure he had gotten some of his immunizations before we travelled. In addition, I think your child will need his Birth Certificate and they will ask you for a passport!

youll need a social security number for the child to be able to put any kind of inentification of any kind on him (pass port) sign up for one and wait for about 2 weeks in the mail. then take the S.S. card to wherever you are going to get your passport and show them the birth certificate, S.S. card, proof hes your child, proof hes your wife's child (by crib cards, mother's birth certificate copy and father's birth certificate copy...you get these when your son is born, to prove hes yours untill you get a birth certificate for him, but keep them incase you need them) good luck.
