Hurricanes do hit Gainesville. I lived through the 2003 and 2004 hurricane season in Gainesville. We were hit by Jeanne, Frances, and I can't remember the others, but it wasn't bad at all!! Just had to stay inside for a little while.

Born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. (38) years. No hurricanes have ever hit directly but we recieved heavy showers, hail, flooding, & mild damages but no deaths.

They don't. Gainesville is too far inland, so the worst you will get is heavy rain. The downside is, by being in Gainesville you are in GAY-tor territory.

I don't remember (& I should too- I'm into that sort of stuff). But you can count on it happening about 2 days after you arrive there on vacation! Go after November- it should be safe then.
