Generally speaking, yes, they still look down at having them. Especially in any business where you are dealing directly with clients.

Many employers are beginning to loosen up. But I do agree with many of the people who have answered...make sure you wear long sleeves if you are in a profession that requires you to have contact with the public. Especially a museum.

Will you be wearing long sleeves/jacket/sweater pretty much daily? Then it shouldn't be a problem.
Do people look down on it, yes. But people look down on just about anything anymore.
I have visible tattoos and I am an elementary school educator.
It also depends on how well you do your job. Get a job first, research their tattoo policies, then get inked.

It depends on the industry and the geographical location (some cities are just more liberal than others.) My guess is that the museum profession is among the somewhat conservative and that you'd want to keep them hidden.

why not!
we live in a society that loves to judge on first appearance, sexuality, religion, race, sex........... the list can go on for days and days. If you have something, do something, or are something chances are there will be some one offended by it. Like what I'm saying now I am sure that someone disagrees with what I'm saying. Do what you think is in the best interest for you

Some employers will not hire you if you have tattoos that are visible. it all depends on what type of job you are looking for. then there are some that could care less, it pretty much depends on the work environment.

It shouldn't because technically it seems like it would be discrimination, but in reality I'm sure for many jobs it does hurt your chances of being taken seriously.
