This is not a problem with your oil pump.
You may have something in your oil.
I think you are looking in the wrong area for your stalling problem>

The 'check oil pressure' indicator may very likely be because of the stalling or even an idle speed that is too low. But to be safe you should have the oil pressure checked by using a mechanical guage. As far as the stalling goes have that repaired first and mention the oil indicator problem you are concerned about. A test drive should be done to verify that the stalling condition is repaired and the mechanic can then monitor the oil indicator status at that time. I,ll bet repairing the low idle will cure the oil pressure condition also...Good luck.

You're getting the "check oil pressure" messge on the display because the engine has stalled and there's no oil pressure at that moment. It's not the cause of your problem, your oil pressure is fine!
You'll need to have a diagnostic run to determine the cause of the stalling. But you could always change the air and fuel filters for starters as both of them can cause stalling if they're very dirty. A tuneup would be in order as well.

An oil pump either works or doesn't. Yours isn't bad if it still runs. Check your oil level first. There is a sensor that comes on if your low and if your too low it will shut the fuel pump off electronically. There is a "pick-up" screen in your oil pan that might be gummed up. Or your sensor is acting up.
Check:
1) Oil level
2) Sensor/Oil pressure sending unit
3) Pick up screen in oil pan
Thats all I've got
P.S. Your oil pressure should go up when you give it gas. Thats normal. It it goes off the scale, then your pick up tube and screen has fallen off.

To answer your question---you can buy a cheap mechanical oil pressure gage [those that are made to go in your dash will work for this and cost less than one meant as a tool] and keep a check on it. As for the problem that I believe is most likely--- pull your dip stick out and smell it to see if your vehicle is flooding enough to wash your rings and get into your oil. Remember key on to run and no RPMs to produce oil pressure will= "check oil pressure" light to register.

not sure about the oil pump but could be possible, also when was last oil change your filter could be plugged with debris and your oil cant flow thru your system, if you havent had an oil change and you are way over due try that.
could also be other problems, bust a place to start.
