The questions themselves won't put you in jail. It might put you under some scrutiny. But it would be the answers to the questions and/or the actions that came from the questions that might land you in legal trouble.

Example 1: "Hey 10 year old girl, would you like to have sex with a 58 year old man?" Asking the question wouldn't get you into trouble; driving to a nearby hotel room to have "relations" with the underage child would cause police officers to put you in handcuffs.

Example 2: "How do I join al Quaida so I can unleash my wrath on the American public?" Again, you're not going to go to jail for asking, but you'll definitely be on a "watch list" for the next 10 years to see if you become a terrorist.

i'm gonna guess anything relating to
child porn
making explosives
certain political personel schedules
etc

won't land you in jail but WILL get some peoples attention

No, they can't put you in jail. They just erase the question.

That's a good question. As long as you don't ask about something that compromises national security, or hitmen stuff, I think any other question would be fine.
