I am 34 and have been married for 16 years. The thing that has kept my marriage strong is that we are #1 best friends. There is nobody on earth that I would rather hang out with than him. #2 Communication. YOU HAVE GOT TO TALK TO EACH OTHER AND NEVER GO TO SLEEP MAD. No running away from disagreements, get it out in the open so it doesn't fester. Always approach any disagreement without cursing, or yelling. You owe each other that much no matter how mad you are. Respect is key. #3 intimacy. We have sex 2-4 times per week, and have done so for all 16 years. When you have love, friendship, respect, communication, and attraction that is the strong base to help you get through the hard times.

The most important aspect is love, honesty, trust. A marriage can not work if there is jealousy and if the couple is unable to trust each other and another important thing to marriage is to be understanding and be there for each other. These things are what kept my husband and me together for 25 years. The only thing with our marraige is I wished that my husband was more compassionate and understanding of my feelings.

Sex, but not for the reason you think. It's what defines a marriage and separates it from all other relationships. It's the only way to build true intimacy, or destroy any hope of it. It's the only way to build deep trust by being totally vulnerable, and not then being attacked, or destroy it by assault. It's the only way to show yourself naked; heart, mind and body, to another; or "leave them in the dark". It can help to build self esteem, or destroy it. It can be used to show acceptance, affection, love, desire, comfort... or show a lack of these things. It can be used to affirm the value of another, or debase them. It can be used to relieve stress, or be the greatest of stressors. It can be something that brings embarrassment, shame and guilt, or relieve all of these things completely. It is the fulcrum against which all other aspects of a marriage can be judged.
If trust, communication, honesty, vulnerability and strength work there, they'll work everywhere. If they don't work there, they really don't work elsewhere, do they?

Communication! Every relationship in life is based on communication. For example...how do animals determine their rank in their family groups? By communicating either by standing up to the current position holder or some other form that only they understand. Humans...same but different. We are designed to recognize individual qualities in others and therefore see where they fit into things. It still takes some kind of communication (verbal, physical, body language, etc.) to establish that recognition. secondly, how can you hope to learn to trust anyone if you do not see for yourself the things that lead to that trust? for example....if your husband goes to work every day, comes home every night and talks to you in depth about his day, due to that communication you learn to trust him. Also body language during said conversation. If something is not right then you will know by some form of communication...whether it be by his actions, body language or ease at openness with verbal communication. From that comes the sense of being able to trust and not question the things you value in the relationship and therefore it stands to reason that THE MAIN factor in ECERY relationship is COMMUNICATION. The one factor from which all others can be formed! In response to Anterions comments, sex is also a form of communication and fits into everything I have said as well as the way he desribed it! It all meshes together into one BIG picture! However I disagree with sex and intimacy being the basis of anything. I think that it is part of the whole basis and that a flaw anywhere will filter into that aspect as easily as anywhere else but does not neccessarily have to start there. Sex is communication and so if communication is unstable anywhere then everything will be affected everywhere.

because first marriages many times end over economic disputes, in all probability having comparable artwork and economic values could be substantial. So something that ought to tend to end a marriage if an substantial ingredient. there are various exceptions, yet some issues that correlate to shortened marriages comprise: diverse racial, non secular and socio-financial backgrounds; actual and psychological disabilities, previous failed marriages, step-little ones, poverty.

It is very important to like your spouse. Just because you are now married, you can't stop trying to impress and keep things exciting. Also, maintain who you were prior to the marriage. If you went out with the 'girls' continue to do so. Don't just become Mrs. So & So.
