Ozone is simply 3 oxygen atoms. It appears naturally on earth to clean up pollution which is why they measure it. but even weather men dont know that. ozone is one of the best air cleaners in the world. It kills bacteria mold and all that bad stuff. now u know. smog is smog. ozone is ozone.

actually, Ozone is also considered a polutant. It has been known to cause allergies and a number of other health issues.

Ozone is a known irritant. People with weak lungs, such as the very young, very old, those with allergies or illness of the lungs, heart, nose or throat should avoid ozone generating machines, or days with heavy ozone in the air (in other words, heavy smog days).
Ozone can kill, as you have mentioned, it is effective at killing bacteria and mold, and can be hazardous to humans with a high enough concentration. Therefore, the ozone in the air is listed as a component of smog, along with carbon and sulfur compounds.

Most of ozone is at very high altitude away from us. It's oxidizing agent that can harm hearts and cause some health problems. That might be what weather man may be talking about since significant amount ozone can form in places where you see bad smog.
