Im fairly new to yahoo questions. As a gay individual, I've enjoyed looking at the questions in this category. However, I've noticed a large group of people coming into this section and saying hurtful things. Many times these items criticize gays for being hateful, for having a political agenda, and the like. I'm at a loss.
I guess I don't understand people. Why do people feel the need to protest at funerals saying, "God hates fags"? Why do people log onto a LGBT section to belittle others? Why do people disseminate such hatred toward other humans?
Aren't we all just trying to get by? Isn't the world made of imperfect people? What motivation or satisfaction do people get from saying such things?
I've avoided hurting others. I'm nice. So, why do people hate me for something that doesn't even affect them? I'm growing frustrated with the hatred, many times on both sides. So I ask, why are we all mean?

I want to say that I do have a thick skin, and I allow it to not bother me. Yet, I look around the world and people just hate one another. The frustration comes from not understanding others.
I don't understand why in 2006 people still hate that which is different. We're in a global, heterogenous economy and market. We're able to chat with people in Zaire, email people in Japan, watch television from England; all while sitting within our homes. So, why are we so afraid of that which is different?

People are mean, certainly as far as Yahoo answers is concerned, for one of two reasons. One because they have so little power and control over the rest of their lives they feel the need to belittle people and gain some sort of feeling of power and control. Two because they are ignorant, they believe they are right in their beliefs and that is it no debate no looking impartially and respectfully at others opinions - Just keep on ramming the same old narrow opinion at everyone. Fortunately, my friend not everyone is like that and I have encountered many really interesting people on a daily basis. Don't give up just learn to take the rough with the smooth!!!

Im straight, but i totally understand what you mean. My uncle is gay and it really hurts me when people talk about gay people as inferior. I have loads of gay friends, that doesnt mean they are any different than others in how they should be treated. I heard someone say that gay men are bitchy. But i think plenty of straight men are bitchy and nearly all women gay or straight are bitchy. People should stop stereotyping and see people as people and not as gay. This is such a great question by the way.

unfortuntely gays or anyone else who is different in today's society are not fully accepted. We are different than them so we are the victims of their hateful words and attacks. Just like the bully in the school yard who is trying to deal with their own insecurities of what they do not understand. We just need to educate people more and show them there is nothing to fear from us or about our lifestyle. Hopefully with Lance Bass coming out this week, that will open some people's eyes to see that gay people are just normal people like everyone else. Maybe we might have more celebrities coming out of the closet to help more people understand.

Well, I think you expressed yourself very well and correct on many levels. Everyone should be who they are regardless of their gender. Things have improved in this generation. Not perfect but certainly better. However, I must say, my ex was gay.
If anyone was full of hate it was him. He projected his hatred of the world on us. I mean he vented his spleen all over the place. It was devastating... I suspect he needed a reason to leave. He's happy now and what a mess he left.

People often hate the things that they don't understand or the things that differ from their own lives. People need to understand that deep down we are all the same and all here for the same purpose, to live life to the fullest.

because thats not the way God intended for us to be. He doesn't hate gay people but the way gay people carry out thier lifestyles is an abomination to Him.

People fear what they don't understand, and they hate what they fear. It's easier to hate something/some one then to learn about them.
