It is very difficult to answer this question. But yes and no. You have to be a very experience hacker in order to steal your identity using your ID but it is not impossible. I will expalin 1 way they would find your social security to do identity theft. They would have to run a query on the DMV database (that is where the ID's come from) for your ID# which means they would have to be able to break into your State's DMV database which is encrypted with pretty good security.

Usually to do identity theft you either need credit card info or social. Then your screwed. I really wouldnt worry about it. Put it this way if a hacker is good enough to find your social using your ID then they are in no way going to waste their time looking for your information. They will go for companies with databases etc.

You do not need a social security number to steal an ID. Nor do you need a driver's license number, but this helps. It is now illegal to require people to print their SS numbers on checks, but driver's license numbers can still be required. And don't even get me started on online credit card usage...I mean, are you just begging someone to steal your ID? Even EBay has been hacked several times, as well as Amazon, Buy.com, etc.

The reality is that it depends on the level of knowledge and resources of the person that obtains your ID or the person that they sell it to. For some great info on ID Theft that may surprise you take a look at my blog http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-nVHt11Q8eqq5Sn2774ZVfkPYsQ--?cq=1&p=23
