As an hr student and a former HR person, there are a few issues here.
Did she get the approval in writing? If so, she does have a case.
But if the other worker is higher seniority, then I can see why she would get priority on this. I'm a mom who has teenagers. Teenagers do not go to daycare and there are a lot of times where teens can get into trouble if they are unsupervised.
I'd recommend that your wife sit down with the co-worker and have a heart to hear chat with her and explain how she is also a mother and see if she can work something out so that they can both have time to leave early.
When I was a secretary and had to stay until 5 to answer phones, we each took different days of the week. That way, no one got stuck with all the bad times.

It is right that your wife is upset but employer is always try to be fair, it is normal in the employment job. In other country, no one is allowed to go home at 2pm, even if u are a new mother, still have to leave the office at 4pm. If your wife can do job at home, suggest to her to Work at home after your working hours or during weekend. go for the internet business which requires less of your time and the one that will not make you feel headache with web designing, or which require IT knowledge. Second, choose the internet based company which offer you the opportunity and at the same time giving you the convenience to start the business. Third, choose the business, which does not require big money to start it.

It's understandable that she's disappointed, but she is not entitled to a flex schedule. This kind of problem is the reason so many employers discriminate against women of child-bearing age. It sounds like the co-worker is jealous of the opportunity and purposely set out to have it taken away from your wife. It's difficult to make decisions when the hormones are all over the place. Maybe she should wait until after the baby is born to make a job transition. Hopefully, in that time, the boss will have worked something out to help her out or she can start looking. It would be easier if she wasn't pregnant anyway. Congratulations on your baby and good luck with this situation.

I think she is SOL unless she got it in writing from her boss. It's unfortunate that co-worked was so nasty about it and decided to use this idea for her own gain. Unfortunately, your wife might need to talk to the other co-worker and see if they can work it out between them. Maybe they can do a "time/job-share" type of thing where one of them leaves at 2 one week and the other the next week or split the week out - one leaves early 2 days and the other 3 days and then switch the next week. Hopefully the co-worker is not SO selfish that she would deny a pregnant woman that option but she might be. But unfortunately, pregnancy does not usually take precedence over seniority. Tell your wife good luck!

Sounds to me like her boss is favoring her coworker more. You wife does have the right to be upset. Especially since the boss already told her it would be OK. To me it sounds like they are trying to get her quit. She should just finish her days before her maternity leave and after the baby is born and she is ready to work again she should look for a job. It will be hard to find a job that will let her leave at 2pm. But hopefully she will find one. I know how hard it is to work and have kids to take care of. We want to work, we just want to see our kids too. I hope your wife finds a better job where she is more appreciated.

If it went down as you say, her coworker is a weasel, and a selfish one at that.
Your wife should probably approach the boss again and ask for some alternatives, such as working from home, etc. If you want my honest opinion, I think your wife should take some time off from work after the baby is born (or you...whichever is most convenient). Babies need lots of love and attention, and they most importantly need their parents. When they get a little older day care is fine, but at a young age, they really do need mom or dad.
Anyways, yeah, your wife should be upset, not at her boss, but at that weasel.

1. If she loves her job then she'll have to stay later (many women do it and their babies are fine).
2. She can look for another job while on maternity leave and kiss the old boss good-bye!
3. Start her own business from home and still be able to take care of her child.

Yes. i would be outraged too. if the other co-workers kids cant keep up with thier mom that is not your wife problem. a baby needs constant attention and if you nboth have to work, she should get off early. baby's ar emore frail then teenagers.
I would find a new job asap or take a longer maternity leave if your job can suport the two of you?

I think she has every right to be ticked off. She should go to the coworker first and see if she will give her time up or even alternate days with her. If her boss still wont give her the time off she should stay for now and milk every ounce of the hopefully paid maternity leave then quit.

Sell tshirt printing! I own a tshirt printing company near San Antonio, Texas. I am looking for a straight commission salesperson. All you have to do is let pass out business cards, let people know that you can offer a service. Be an order taker. Where you are located doesn't matter. On a 100 shirt order, for instance, I pay a $100 commission. My prices are good, quality too. You can do this on your own time, and age doesn't matter. Contact me if I can help.
