It comes up when I mistype an url, when I hit search in the tool bar, and when I right click a link, but I don't recall downloading anything or agreeing to any changes. I use google, I just don't know where it came from.
anyone else come across this?

when i downloaded google earth i got that and i don't remember agreeing to it!!

Maybe you did download something? There is a way to change this feature.
Go to View-->Explorer Bar-->Search. From there, click on the custom button. You can change your searching behavior, including the search engine that can be used.

Just open google, then look at your explorer menu, go "Tools", "internet options" then the top box says home page, just click "use current" and Google will be your default... simple.

change the default search server properties from view menu of your browser..
