If you do not like crowds you better avoid the high season which is between New Years and Carnival. If you do not like the high temperatures the best time to go is between June and August. It's the best time to get great deals on hotels and airline tickets as well because no one likes to travel during the winter time but do not worry about the cold, their winter is not under the 70's which is great for us.

Either you are VERY YOUNG or VERY STUPID.. How could you NOT know the reputation that Carinval in Rio has? Would you go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and expect a PREACHER and a CHURCH CHOIR on each corner. Rio is a BLOW OUT PARTY and anyone STUPID enough to take their CHILDREN to it should have their head examined... Rio is DANGEROUS at normal times and that is DOUBLY SO during Carnival.. Its NO PLACE FOR AMATEUR TRAVELERS.

The Best time is October.
It's Spring in Rio.
The prices are cheaper, and it's not so hot.

Have a great time.

ANYTIME! And do not consider the observations of the 1st answerer: He/she's full of crap! No Airco? Where? Beaches polluted? Where? Tabwater? Well, that depends! Out at night? I do it all the time for 20 years. You have to maintain your head on your shoulders;and the gray mass between your ears is there for a purpose...The US is far less safe in places! And far more polluted, too.

Good choice not going on February, it's VERY hot and most places don't have air conditioner. I would say June, bacause it's more cold. Is it your first time? Be ware when you arrive at the airport, make sure no one follows you so they could rob you. Don't drink tap water. Don't eat undercooked meat. Don't go out at night. Don't get in the beach water, it is polluted. Sorry....
To Aybloc: I'm just telling him the TRUTH. Sometimes it hurts. YOU are full of crap!
