They are so ugly that I couldn't even copy the picture without grossing out. If you are really gross and would like to keep them as a pet then you can, because according to the second link you are perfectly fine doing so. And the first link is a picture of a doodlebug.

Doodlebug, a word of uncertain origin often applied as a nickname to diminutive types, may refer to:

Doodlebug (rail car), a self-propelled railroad car
Doodlebug, the large-jawed larvae of the antlion; the term is sometimes used informally to describe other insects as well, such as the woodlouse or bombardier beetle
Doodlebug, a nickname given by the British to the V-1 flying bomb during the Second World War
Doodlebug, the name in the U.S. South for a dowsing rod to find minerals
Doodlebug, another word for someone possessing stupidity; may be related to the Low German word for a fool or simpleton: dudel
Doodlebug, a head high full toss made famous by cricketer Max Walker (Australian)
DoodleBug, a harness for a hang glider that contains an Otto engine and propellor allowing the pilot to launch from flat ground.

A doodlebug is an insect. Doodlebug is also used as an affectionate term, especially with children. I remember my mother repeating this phrase that went like: "doodlebug, doodlebug, fly away home-your house is on fire and your children will burn."

Doodlebug, pillbug, rollie-pollie are all the same kind of bug. Rather small (maybe the size of a pencil eraser) they are gray in color and burrow in sand. They leave little holes in sand that resemble a whirl-pool, but don't use it catch anything.
