How much do you want to spend?

My son and I have a fairly good 1/72-scale Avenger which cost about ten bucks. He and I build a lot of WW2 models, and I have purchased many of them from HobbyLinc.

Here's a small one:

http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/mmi/mmi14414.htm is a $6 1/144-scale model; it'll be about 2" long. (We're building a WW2 Pacific Air War chess set with these 1/144-scale aircraft as the chess pieces; I believe the Grumman is the Allied rook.)

Or if you really want to take it to the max, check out this one:

Ninety-eight bucks is a little steep, but a 1/32 aircraft is going to be almost a foot long and have LOTS of detail.

Another thing they have on Hobbylinc is the "Walkaround" series of books -- illustrations of aircraft for you to use when you're painting your model. There's one for the Grumman for $11.29:

My recommendation, though -- go to Google and type "Grumman Avenger model." You'll come up with a zillion hits.

Revelle makes plastic models of the TBM.
There are several manufacturers of balsa kitted models around, telephone your local hobbyshop for more info or google for kits.
