Well lets forget Genres, One band created a genre when music was ruled by hair metal, This band was Nirvana, the last great band to breach the earth. There genre (grunge or whatever ppl call it, its just raw, and original) could never be copied like Nirvana sang or created it. Therefore i think the genre of the band that can never be repoduced. Like The Beatles and Nirvana. No one could copy Kurt Cobain, there is nobody like him. No body could copy Lennon. If you copied metal like lots did the results would be okay, with Nirvana it wouldn't nor the Beatles. Nirvana is raw brilliance, Nirvana is a genre on its own.
I'd say metal. Rap is commercial rubbish that uses women shaking their butt to make crap lyric rappers like 50 cent and ppl like Kanye West who steals Mowtown to make money. Its a fraud to the viewers and they are blind to see. Some Metal is great but some is awful. So i say metal. Early Metallica influence my decision

Rap of course because no offense but to me metal is a bunch of screamin'. Maybe its more to it than that but i wouldn't no becuase i can't understand wut they're sayin. And for the gurl above who put rappers can't sing must b retarded because rappers are rappers not singers. But I feel that over all rap is better b cuz its flexible. It fits all moods. If you're happy they're happy rap songs, if u feel like laughin there's rap songs to make u laugh(any thing by eminem does the trick) and if u feel like bein mean they're gangsta rap and if u feel like just gettin crunk and goin dumb there is rap songs for that. I don't kno if its just me but I feel like most Metal songs are mean depressin and sad. I'm not sayin that its completely bad be cuz i listen to it some of the time I love linkin park "numb"& "breakin the habit"
