No offense but I personally would say get the kid a bike and have him play outside instead of melting on a video game. I would also say that if he is going to get one or the other, I believe a DS would be the good thing to get. Some games for the DS, such as Brain Age can help improve his math as he gets older and improve his memory. Sigh, kids should spend more time outside. I personally don't mind taking walks and hiking everyday. Video games take up too much time in children's lives these days.

I think i'd go for the gameboy advance I mean if he's really interested in Mario then thats what he's gonna want. A DS is much more recent so there's also a lot more stuff out there for advanced. Plus DS's cost more and those things dont always last so getting a Gameboy advanced is probably the smarter way to go.

I would get the Gameboy Advance SP, (NOT the gameboy advance) because it flips open like the DS, but it doesn't have the dual screen, plus it DOES have the light included on the screen. And there are so many games available for it. In a few years you can always get him the DS anyways. My son has them all, but he uses the DS the most now, but he's 14. Usually he's on the Xbox though, now that he's older. But before he was into Xbox so much, and before the DS, his Advance SP went with him everywhere. It's nice bc the screen is protected when folded, and its a nice small square size that fits in his pocket.

Neither, in my opinion, but if you're going to buy one, then I would go with the GameBoy Advance. Their gaming library is more child-oriented than the DS, which is much more complicated to work than the GameBoy anyway. However, if you think he will keep it for a few years (until he's seven or so), then a DS may be a better choice. Also, the DS does not use discs. it uses cartridges, but much smaller cartridges than the GameBoy. It is very difficult for them to malfunction, unless they are repeatedly stepped on, or submerged in water. The GameBoy is also a lot cheaper, and you can also purchase cartoon episodes on cartridges (of course, these will also play on the DS).

get the gameboy. lot more games, a hell of a lot more sturdy. the ds is pretty fragile, and there is a little touch screen that comes with a pen about 2 inches long, he'd probably lose it. the ds has discs, not cartriges as the gameboy does. something would happen to the discs, scratches, somethin'. i have a four year old younger sister, and yeah. i know. but that great bundle, dang, that's a bargain if i ever saw one!

My best friends little brother has a younger brother (3 years old)
and he loves mario cart for ds, plus everykid loves to draw, and the DS can do that, the new mario game is somewhat difficult, but the nintendo DS can play all gameboy advance games, so you could get both The easy mario game, and mario kart, i believe that sums above $150.00 so, try to buy whatever you think HE wants, why not ask him?

The Advance because he is a bit too young for the DS.
The DS has two screens to break, is less durable, and comes with a small stylus that he will most likely lose.
The Advance is cheaper as well.
