Do not pierce your own ear. First, and most importantly, you cannot thoroughly sterilize the needle you plan on using, thereby running the risk of serious infection. Second, there's the chance that you will pierce it lopsided, poorly placed for the shape of your ear, or pointing in a direction that's not "straight out the other end".

It would be well worth it to save up the money (in California, anywhere from $20-$35 for a single piercing) and have it professionally done. This way, you know the needles they're using are sterile, and your ear is properly pierced straight-on.

No amount of wanting to get it done now, cheaply, is worth the risk of developing a disfiguring infection, and the associated doctor bills.

I pierced my own ear once with suggestions from numbing it with ice. Its somewhat better to get it done professionally tho because they mark your ear the position they are going to pierce it and they grant you with Ear Care answer to apply for some weeks. It merely pinches for a second once you get it done with suggestions from a specialist. I have 4 holes in each and each and every ear so it would not damage that a lot.

I pierced my ear a couple of times. You ought to have the pliers or piercing gun. Sometimes a slow piercing action can result in tissue lacerations in the lobe, which become cysts over time. Very painful leading up to the day the cyst explodes.

doesnt't it hurt when someone else pierces it. its going to hurt more if you do it yourself unless you like pain.

yes, quite a bit. I'd go with numbing it with an ice cube first.
