The government pays farmers to not grow crops so supply doesn't outweight demand, right?

Lots of people pout there need work, right?

Why not let these farmers grow corn, soy, peanuts, or whatever crop can be refined & tured into a cleaner-burning fuel than oil?

This would create work for the farmers, work for the people needing to build the refineries for the new fuel, and work for the people needed to run the refineries. People working in the oil business now could shift to the bio-fuel industry.

If we did this, we could depend on our own oil, not oil form across the world, and it would be better for our air quality. Maybe even thr gas prices would eventually be lower once we had enough stations, farms, & refineries.

It looks like a win-win situation all around. Why can't this be done?

Oil makers claim that it would be too expensive. However, I think we would be much happier if we didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for gas. My personal opinion is that oil producers are greedy for money no matter whose pocketbook it hurts as long as it's not theirs.

We have plenty of our own oil, however we use foreign oil so that we do not use up our own resources. Once the oil in the rest of the world is depleted, the US will have more economic power.

there is an ethanol made from corn that cars can run on its called e 85 which means its 85% corn ethanol and 15% gasolean. i heard on the news that it is more expensive to make and produce...probably because we already have equipment to produce petrolum and gas and to get/make new equipment for organic based oils would be far more tedious and expensive ithink

Actually that has been invented. Many diesel engines can run on canola oil. You can even have your vehicle converted to run on oil too.
