i mean, what gives them the right to do that? i'm in colorguard, a sport and virtually no one understand or has even heard about, yet everyone feels that they have the right to make fun of it and insult it all the time.
the same goes for christianity or any other religion. what gives other religions the right to insult christianity? is it the same thing that gives christians the right to insult other religions?

If someone isn't familiar with something, it's easier for them to criticize, jeer, etc. rather than look 'stupid'. Little do they know that their actions mostly make them look like fools.

If you talk of insulting each other, I think that comes from insecurity. You are not secure in your own position and that is why you cover it up by insulting the other.

Religion is a very difficult subject as far as insults are concerned.

Religion is very powerful and power brings arrogance. When power and arrogance come in through the door, you can rest assured equal rights go out the door.

You as a christian are in a very superior position because you have power, like the superpower, and you then start behaving as though GOD is on your side. You do not realise that all of us are given freedom to choose our manners and being arrogant does not come from god.

So when you are arrogant, and feeling good about yourself, you will insult anyone that is not in an equal position.

So insulting in religion is really a very strong and powerful tool to break the spirit of the weak. But that is not right.

It is wrong to insult someone about their religion because you are arrogant.

And then if someone has been continuously insulted about their religion, there will be a day when it will come back to you. They will fight back so hard that you may reel from the shock.

It happens all the time. Many people believe that if they don't about something then it must not be important. I often see it as a form of arrogance as well as ignorance. Arrogance and ignorance are a deadly combination.

Colorguard as in flags, sabres, rifles, etc. (not ROTC)? People often make fun of guard because of their proximity to band which is notoriously made fun of. What those people don't understand is the strength and skill that guard actually takes. Depending on the show it's a combination of dance and gymnastics. I find it very interesting and I've seen some groups (high school even) do some amazing and dangerous things. If done well it is really neat to watch.

That's easy. They're afraid. People are afraid of what they don't understand. That's why white people are so racist. They think the blacks are huge and will kill them all, so they get like five whites to gang up on one unarmed black man while they have bats and such. That's fair. Then you have the school bully. He probably comes from a broken home, where his dad makes him feel like **** constantly, plus his mom's never around or she's all drugged out, so he tries to make everyone around him feel worse than he does so he feels better about himself.
And I'm sorry, colorguard isn't a sport. It is an art and should be looked at as such. You're creating art with a few others in synchronized movement. You should feel good that you're creative and have a talent that some of us don't. They make fun of it because they're not happy and they see it makes you feel that way. You found something that you enjoy and simply because they don't want to take the time to understand it, they feel angry and the inherent need to be rid of it. Also, this is why I don't subscribe to any religion. I have faith and accept the fact that SOMETHING bigger than me is out there, but I don't try to conform it to my specifications. I don't give it a name and a face so I CAN better understand it and feel comfortable with it. I accept it, and I live alongside it giving it the respect it deserves by not trying to build a belief structure around it and worshiping it according to the writings of man in his earliest interpretive years.
Don't put so much stock in what others think or feel about you. They are probably unsure of themselves and insecure with the idea of death, and or life, and feel the need to bully yo or their religions to make themselves feel better. Have faith in you, and trust that everyone is inherently good inside and that society makes us all morons. You do the best you can and try to help those who need it most. Feel good about your life and what makes you special. F*** everyone else, you're better than that.

In terms of the color guard, people make fun of things that are outside the norm as a way of making themselves feel more normal and acceptable.

In terms of religion, people fear and ridicule what they do not understand. Remember that Christians are just as bad at this, if not worse, than most religions. It is funny that almost every religion teaches tolerance, yet members of those religions seem so intolerant.

I think that a lot of the time people of afraid of the things that they know nothing about. When people make fun of something or whatever it's just easier for them then to take the time and learn about something new. Some other people are just not accepting of anything that differs from their own life.

Yes, it is a sport! Thank you! someone who understands it. yeah, my guard has the same problem. At our pep rally, everyone brought dozens of rubber super balls to chuck at people they didn't like. Needless to say, the guard and marching band got quite a few! But now that everyone sees that we throw two foot long swords and guns up in the air 10 feet or more, they have a little more respect. People have odd ways of reacting to things they're unsure of! and let ME tell you!

People who don't know something, who don't understand, who don't want to know it will make fun of it to hide their own insecurities. This pushes it back to where they don't learn anything about it, when in the meantime it could be both fun and rewarding... People are just mean sometimes. everyone carries that trait..

ppl reject and/or are afraid of what they dont know or cant see. not knowing what can come of it, what the results or basis of the statement is makes ppl skeptical. now, i dont know anyhting about colorgaurd but ppl also become cocky with thier trade or preference. ppl who dont like it alot of times havent tried it. they stick to want they know and it keeps them in a comfortable position. republicans will most times disagree with democrats and vise versa becasue of the way they think a system should and could work and vise versa

religions believe in thiers god(s) becuase thas how they are raised or what they come to understand. and sometimes they arent alwayz rejecting it but they are simply trying to get you see thier way believe thier ways.

it a matter of comfort and understanding. next time someonecalls you out on your sport, show them how it works tell them what you do for the sport. challenge them if its something like that. show them your trade and let them show you thiers.

It is a process of regarding what you feel is valid and discarding that which is not. You cannot take all the junk on board otherwise you will waste your time dealing with worthless specimens.
