Cora, we all know the answer (at least part of it), and the answer transcends faith.
We know that every element and spark of energy had its origin in a "big bang" about 12 billion years ago. We know, therefore, that every aspect of what we are physiologically has been around at least that long, and will continue to be so for another 12 billion years (or more).
We turn together, and look back at that portion of our origins, and the universe is instantly self-aware. Why? Because we're of the universe. I don't know what started it, but I DO know that death won't end it.
We'll go on. Every element, and every spark of energy will go on. There was no beginning, absent the possibility that the "big bang" was a "unique" beginning, and there will be no end.
Perhaps we've always known one another. Perhaps we recognize that which has been familiar for an eternity. Perhaps in many diverse and unforeseeable ways, we will know one another again and again, but it absolutely will not end with death, for it didn't begin with birth. :-)

I have a theory about the 21 grams that is just loss of internal activity. Motion causes the scale to move micrometers and it takes micro seconds for the springs in the scale to recover. But when the heart and diaphragm stop functioning your body is suddenly completely still and the weight is consistent.
Now as for our eternal destination, I believe the Bible and it says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I think that means our spirit returns to our Maker but we are unconscious even in this state until He calls us. It says that He will call us when Jesus comes to earth again. There are a few exceptions to this. The martyrs are underneath the throne of God and talk to Him all the time about how long He will let their blood go unavenged. Another one was when the King of Israel asked a channeler to call up the spirit of a prophet who'd died of natural causes. She was so shocked that the real spirit of that prophet showed up that she was ready to run out of her own cave. The prophet admonished the king and went back to sleep.

We are in a closed system. Sort of like a big terrarium. We're drinking the same water the cavemen and Romans drank. When something dies its remains are used by other living things. It's one big cycle. No one can explain child prodigies. Can it be that a person with a great talent spirit's recycled in such a child. Every person gets that familiar feeling about something occasionally, even though they've never been exposed to it. Nothing in this world is ever truly wasted. Nothing leaves this closed system but rocket ships. It's like "Hotel California" - you can check out but you can never leave!
Good luck on your next recycle!

Do you live on? Yes.
Are you gone forever? In the real world, yes.
Where do you go? Heaven or hell.
Those 21 grams soar up in the sky.

I can honestly say I don't know and I have no way of knowing. Most people would say the same if they were humble and unafraid enough to admit it. But most people have some conviction about what happens after death because they are afraid of death if it is truly the end of consciousness, or they feel like they need an answer because they don't want to face their own ignorance. And of course, some people ideas about the after life are products of what they've been told since they were too young to remember, so it seems like absolute truth. But it isn't.
A few days ago, I had this same conversation with a christian relative who is sure that heaven and hell awaits us. When I told them that I just don't know, they were surprised that I am able to be happy and optimistic thinking in such a way. But I am not afraid of death, as she admitted to be. I just see it as inevitable. To fear it is to be in denial.

I believe we cross over into another plane. You continue living on and if you choose to come back to earth and live this worldly life again you can choose to be re-born.
The 21 grams is nothing more than moisture.

once I die, others will nevertheless be alive getting on with their lives. consistent with hazard i might opt to think of a few would mourn my dying, yet it extremely relies upon what I did in existence. once I die, I would be not extra, so I isn't unsleeping and subsequently I isn't able to recognize what occurs following my dying. So there is no component demanding approximately it.

There is a right answer whether you believe me or not but there will be a second life and if you don't give your life to Christ you will be in the Pitt of Hell for ever. Not tring to scare u but that day will come and if you are not right with god you will go to hell and be torched. There is a heaven and there will be no in between because everyone in the world has a chance to ask god to come into their life but if they choose not ............it is Hell for them.

The only people that know for sure are the ones who are already dead. But since they can't tell us what it's like, I guess we just got to wait our turn.
