It's not lack of ambition. It's lack of self esteem. If a man's self esteem is high, he'll take risks in order to get rewards, feeling that if he's rejected, or fails: "heck, I'm good at this, I'll just try again!" If a man's self esteem is low, he avoids taking risks because his ego can't afford to take the hit. If he suffers rejection or failure, it would hurt, so he avoids the whole issue, avoiding the chance of success in order to avoid the possibility of failure.
If self esteem is bad enough, he'll sit on the couch and not even look for a job. He'd rather be broke and unemployed than risk applying for work and getting rejected, or even getting a job that isn't "cool".
He "dreams" because he can fantasize about being successful without taking the risk of failure, even if the risk is remote.
Little you can do to boost his self esteem. Take a hard look at the guy. If he has the potential to break out of this cycle, grow a pair, go out and take a chance, then... take the chance. If not, find another.

no. u cant make someone do something they dont want to do. ur a good friend to be a supporter and encourage that person. but until that person decides to move and take action, there is nothing u can do. no longer bring up the matter. if they start to tell u about there dreams listen if u want then change the subject because u already know they only have excuses for not putting their dreams into actions. be there for that person, but dont stress over something they're not even stressing over.

Lifes about the ride, not the destination. If the dreamer only dreams, and has a steady job,and putting food on the table, and a roof over your head, why do you care?

Nope.
A dreamer who doesn't work to attain his dream is just a dreamer - turned - loser.
A dreamer who is out there trying to empower himself and reach the step-by-step goals is the dreamer - turned - winner.
You need a winner who's a "keeper".
You can't change this guy's nature. He is who he is.
You weren't put on this earth to "save" him.
He will only frustrate you with his "couch dreams".
Respect yourself.
Empower yourself.......... and move on.
