This has happened twice to me. I am loading up my car, and a car pulls up near me. They say they work for an electronics store and have a bunch of equipment they need to give away or it will be thrown away. Obviously, I decline, get in my car, and drive away. I'm sure that everyone does not. What happens to those people who fall for this?

I am guessing that this is a deal where they lure you in with the "free" stuff and then ask you to pay "shipping and handling" costs or require you to sign up for something that requires you to give them a credit card number. And then what they charge you is probably more than the free stuff they are giving away.

I had been approached many years ago by someone who had a similar scam going- Two guys in a van pull up next to me, open the sliding door and show me a pair of speakers and then give me a similar story about having extra stuff left over that they need to get rid of. They showed me a catalog where a similar looking pair of speakers costs $1600 so they would be willing to cut a deal and sell them to me for $300. My friend fell for it and those speakers were really crappy. They weren't even worth $100.

So whatever the scam is here, I am certain that they are seeking money or your credit card or something that you will regret giving them.

Their not giving it away, they say that because their are apparantly going to sell it you at give away prices.

It's actually a bunch of flea market equipment, (usually stereo equipment) they claim is worth 1500 dollars and you can have it for 400.

You get home it doesn't work.

Your doing the right thing, drive away.
