I was walking down my front porch steps and I sliped but I caught myself. I fell back on my back pretty hard, enough to really give me a good jarring I called my doc and she said this early into the pregnancy I was OK, but I'm still kinda scared! I just had the first ultrasound yesterday and saw the heartbeat. I have no bleeding or spoting, It was raining outside and the steps were slick. Has anyone one else fallen like that while pregnant, do you think i'm ok really?

You are OK...I accidentally fell down the stairs inside my split level home, doing laundry.I went to the hospital because I was scared. My Dr said that when you are in the first few weeks of pregnancy the baby is soo far down below your pelvic bones that the chances of miscarriage are VERY slim....I am now 33 weeks and can't wait for this to be over...Its hot, and I'm miserable!
Best of luck to you

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have fallen 4 times during this pregnancy. I don't know why but for some reason I can't seem to keep my balance at times. I first fell walking down the sidewalk with my 9 month old in my arms and then fell a couple of months later again had my child in my arms but he was 11 months old by this point and this time I fell REALLY hard and then the third time I fell down my stairs which really scared me. ALL three times I went to the doctor and all three times the baby was fine and my doctor told me that truly unless you landed really hard on your belly it probably wouldn't hurt the baby and even then might not hurt the baby for sure - so, your doc is probably right you are probably fine. You might be sore and need to take it easy for a while. If you are truly worried I would MAKE my doctor see me! GOOD LUCK!

Your doctor more than likely is right.Just try to be really careful,i understand things happen like that tho.If any spotting or bleeding does occur the first sign of it you should immediately call your doctor or go to the e.r. It is normal to be worried, but until you have signs that it effected your baby dont worry. If it would make you more comfortable go to a local health clinic tell them what happened and they can do an ultra sound to make sure the baby is ok,but im almost positive if your doctor thought anything was wrong he/she would have told you so.Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way!

Yeah, I was wondering if you had gotten pregnant, you must be so excited!

I wouldn't worry too much about the fall. I had a couple of clumsy spells myself. One was really bad at 25 weeks and the nurse told me that you wouldn't believe how insulated those babies are in the womb. She had seen women who wanted to abort throw themselves down stairs at 6, 8, 10 weeks, etc and only hurt themselves seriously, the babies were just fine.

Take it easy the next few days, rest a lot, and don't think about it, the less stress the better.

Good luck, keep us posted on your pregnancy!

I've fallen several times in my 26 weeks of pregnancy. If i took a hard fall to my tummy now, i'd worry more than if I had fallen when I was 6 or 7 weeks. The baby is well cushioned in there and it would take a direct impact for her to even notice.

BTW, I've become such a Clutz since I've been pregnant! Good luck to you!!

yes your okay as long as you arent spotting. i broke my foot when i was 9 months pregnant and fell. a good idea is to get outside rugs for your steps. the ones that feel like grass thats plastic. cut one in half to fit 2 steps and put it in the stairs so you dont slip again. if you start having back pain or spotting go to the hospital. the stress from worry is not good for you either but right now just take it easy. good luck.

Yes I fell around 12 weeks pregnancy and everything was fine. Your baby is protected in a huge water bubble and you are going to hurt yourself before you hurt the little one.

If you were much further along and you fell and bumped your stomach I would say go to L&D, but you are fine!

Take care of yourself!

I fell when I was pregnant and It did not harm me or the baby at all. She turned out to be a healthy little girl. And right now your baby is really tiny to small to get hurt from just falling.

I fell down 10 of my basement steps at 30 weeks. I'm fine and so is my baby.
You're not showing any bad symptoms, and your doctor isn't worried. You'll be ok, and so will your baby!

Dear Momie,

Just watch carefully for awhile. I knew from reading and classes that the baby is well-insulated from all but the most serious jars and bumps in there. Here are a couple links to use to research:
