I'm not sure I would call myself a philospher, but I do enjoy the philisophical questions the most. There is somthing to be said about a question, statement, or quote that makes you really think and requires some care in answering. There are some people here, I've found, that share my attitude. You just have to filter them from the rest of the trash posted.

I think so, but I am not one of those true 'philosophers'. Isn't it too much to expect anyone in the modern sense to be completely devoted to 'the love of wisdom'? Your question seems to be a serious one, and I hope I have answered it adequately. But let us go further. Your complaint seems to be with the ones in here who only participate in the form of 'oneupmanship and wordplay'. Agreed, these types are annoying, nevertheless, some questions seem to cry out for the kind of sarcasm and subtle denunciation that sometimes involves 'word play'. The oneupmanship responses are usually as annoying as the badly-worded questions. Eagle.

The Yahoo Answer forum is not what I hoped it would be, either. It is heavily populated by the bored, the frivolous, the flippant, the inane, the mischievous, the vulgar, the sacrilegious, and even the perverted. I hang in there with it because, among all of the above, there are also many people seeking real answers to real life problems or issues of concern. And yes, there is even the occasional engaging and stimulating "philosophical" cosmic question being posed by sincere inquisitors of the human spirit and condition. Like you, I relish such discussion and can only hope there will be more to come in the future.

Yes, my child. You can see by my website: www.edenics.com
My 9th book is a dictionary, an ongoing project where many truths
emerge from the true etymology of the word in ?
Not the bogus Greek etymology, from etmos, truth... but from Edenic (the Proto-Semitic language of Eden) where the non-Babel-babble word for truth is EMeT.
This is spelled Aleph (the 1st letter), Mem (the middle letter of the Aleph-Bet/alphabet borrowed by the illiterate Greeks), and Tahf is the last letter. The truth is always in the middle, between the extremes.
See the "CHECKMATE" entry in the dictionary to see why EMeT also means "undying" like true truth.
(I do have a picture at the website). It's not the longest white beard among the staff, but for Yahoo Answers I might be a poor man's philosopher. Best, Isaac

What is a true philosopher? Is that a person who seeks the truth and wisdom or one who hopes to use that truth or wisdom to help his fellow beings? Do you have to ask questions like - If a tree falls in the city. will a squirrel lose it's home? Does competing for points or "flaming" someone for asking a really dumb question serve the greater good in some unknown way?
Maybe.. Why am I doing this? is the real question I should be asking. I don't do it for the points. I do it because I enjoy trying to solve problems and, hopefully, helping people.

There are indeed philosophers on Yahoo! Answers. However, on Answers as in life, there are so many stupid people that the smart, philosophical people are harder to find. I find that many of the smarter people just don't get involved with stupid questions, which is one of the reasons I am mostly not considered a smart person, since I attempt to answer any questions I am able to with humor and, if I can, common sense.

Probably because everything on here is superficial and any true philosopher who would DARE to tell the truth, will probably get zinged for 'abuse' because they can't call anthing or anyone by a real name or disuss a real idea since it might hurt someone's feelings.
It's just enough to make a guy drink some hemlock.

There are some but you're not in the right field if you want a lot of intelligent answers. Most don't even post the right questions in the right spot but who am I to complain. Take it for what it is and just ignore the stupid stuff. To give it attention is to nurture it. Philosophy is moral discipline and intellectual. You can't expect everybody to give you the answer you're looking for.

I would have to say that the person who wrote this question thinks that they are a philosopher. I would also guess that they are arrogant and suffering from an inferiority complex.
