I hope I'm not repeating a previous question.

Why does the BBC report nearly every day on issues and concerns of african nations, while U.S. media tends to ignore African countries most of the time unless its negative news or is related to the "War on Terror"? Is it a lack of concern or knowledge on the part of the U.S.? Or is it because as anti-globalists say, "The American media just doesn't care?" Why do the reporters of the BBC seem to familiarize themselves with African nations and acknowledge the difference of each country where as American media either ignores it or walks past the continent?

You make a valid point that I had not considered before, and the only reason I can think of is that the UK has had geographical and political holdings on the African continent for centuries, while the US just views the deplorable issues and conditions in some parts of Africa as "out-of sight, out-of-mind" due to the distance and the greed of the American government and the whitewashing (pardon the term) of the American media.

Don't get me wrong - I love being a citizen of the United States and enjoy the freedoms we enjoy, but I know too that we are a self-centered, arrogant nation who takes too little interest in ALL global affairs, specifically those in Africa. Peace.

Why shouldn't the BBC report more from Africa? After all the Brits did colonize Africa and America didn't...

BTW why do you care if there isn't enough reporting by major cable/broadcast news companies on Africa?

You have access to the net obviously and there are a myriad souces for African news that have to be more credible than the pinko fairies at the BBC...

FYI, the second link is my favorite for garnering African news by country...

Unfortunately the American media today reflects America. We are the center of Free Enterprise and such our main concern is money. Our main concern is not religion, not helping the poor, nor loving thy neighbors, and certainly not disciplining children, prisoners, woman who need abortions, but our main concern is being completely comfortable while shopping for more comfort at WalMart.
What is our political party called, well it is the Pander Party, The PP's are doing it for you!

America is very egocentric and xenophobic.

England on the other hand, once ruled over large swaths of Africa and still has many interests in all areas of the globe.
