Hi im trying to find a website to find out what my favourite flower is called. I don't want a website that sells bulbs or anything just like a website particularly made for flowers for information usage. thanks!

Here is a good site with many flowers and very good pictures and descriptions:

http://montana.plant-life.org/index.html

It includes wildflowers, native flowers, herbs and introduced flowers.

Happy hunting!

I agree with the last poster that it is better to use a book. Oh the horror, I know! :-) The USDA has a nice website that might be worth a look http://plants.usda.gov/

White Flower Farm is based in CT (and it sells plants so there is an ulterior motive), and lists plants that are specific for CT's climate, and similar climates. Additionally, the Montana website offers the same problem.

You can contact your local county agriculture extension office. Every state has them set up by county (the Federal Gov't requires it) and they are supported by your state university. This office houses experts in all things agricultural, and these are the same folks responsible for 4-H Clubs. You can get literature from them as well as bring in samples for identification (leaves, bugs, dead snakes, whatever) and have garden soil tested. They are also knowledgeable in current disease and insect problems in your area. The offices in my area have hotlines so you don't have to necessarily go to their office for information. If you are not aware of these offices, they are a wealth of information and it's all free.

I would trust government and university based web sites before I would trust a business. Plants are a tricky business, including care, statistics and nomenclature. I used to be a technical writer for horticultural items (I helped companies write their catalogs and websites) and I have seen even the largest and most reputable companies promote errors and fallicies.

In all honesty, in my opinion it is usually easier to peruse a good flower book. Do you know whether the flower is a perennial or annual? (Some books are grouped in that manner.) You might spot it quickly.

Or you could describe it here and I know you will get some suggestions that you can narrow down with further internet research.

I used to go to garden.com a lot for plant info. As I remember, they have lots of pages of plant descriptions and names. Individual plant grower sites are good, too. White Flower farm has a very nice site (whiteflowerfarm.com, I think).

This website has photos of plants: elib.cs.berkeley.edu/photos/floral

However, you enter the name and then you will see a photo of it.
