I am writing a sequel to Pride and Prejudice (please don't criticize me, I know, I've heard it before...) and would like to know what people think of the plot.
OK, it takes place 9 years after P&P, the Darcys happily married with 3 children. Mr. Bennet is ill and unlikely to recover. Mrs. Bennet is in hysterics, and in constant need of attention from her daughters. Kitty meets a charming young man who she sees as good and polite. She is attempting to restrain her flirting (a wonderful sign to the Darcys) until he unexpectingly proposes to MARY! Kitty has been mislead, and her good spirits and intentions are destroyed. She goes to the Wickham's town to recooperate and reflect. Lydia is worried about Wickham often disappearing and needs help with their 5 children. Elizabeth leaves her own kids for a while, leaving Darcy in charge. However, Mrs. Bennet makes an unplanned visit and insists on staying with her grandchildren. Darcy goes after Elizabeth, and says their children are with her

mother too much. She is furious, and is about to give him a piece of her mind when it is discovered that Kitty has been having an affair with Wickham. Lydia is enraged, but not with Wickham. She banishes Kitty, and Kitty is a wreck. Elizabeth takes Kitty to Jane Bingley's place, until Jane falls ill from the recurring cold she caught in the first book. So Elizabeth takes Kitty to Pemberley, where Darcy has realized his mistakes and has beem caring for Mr. Bennet the whole time. Elizabeth is overjoyed, and they "make up" and forgive. Mr. Benent dies in the end, but all is at peace for the Darcy children understand.

I think it has wonderful possibilities.
What you've come up with is very intriguing
The synopsis did leave me wondering about Kitty though. What happens to her?
First she gets mislead by the first gentlemen: then has an affair with her sister's husband, and is cast by her what the matter is found out; then goes back with Elizabeth. What happens to her? May I suggest a twist in that deparment?
It seems that she is sort of at the core of this story.
What if she gets pregnant with Wickham's child or something? To give the story some more suspense. And what if Wickham falls inlove with her and can't forget her?
Now THAT would be interesting.
And the title of this novel, what is it?
Because I would like to read it. When you publish it.

I think you have a fun and energetic idea with your sequel. The characters aren't really growing or changing but it seems very much in the tone of the first book so, I might read it. However, it's going to be hard to follow such a classic as Pride and Prejudice (I know you've heard it before;o) but it's true). The major weakness with your plot is that it focuses more on the minor and less beloved characters. It would be more interesting to show the new families of Elizabeth and Jane and how they cope with the strains and joys of their changing lives. You know, how it's better or worse. In other words, did they really end up happily ever after? I'd be more inclined to read something fresher instead of a sort of rehash of the original. Good luck.

uh...and the point to the plot??...P&P had a happy ending..does urs have an ending. If that was an ending, then the plot was leading nowhere, there only seems to be lot of children and running around....for a change how about making elizabeth start work or something..??

I think its a great Idea. Its very hard to pick up a story from one of the masters of fiction. You would probably meet with a lot of resistance and criticize but if you truly believe in your project then just keep at it. I wish you the best of luck.

Sounds interesting. But, you can make it your own with a few revisions-you might be better off.
