here are a list of reasons good or bad.
1. thier voice is giving out.
2. they want to see if these people in the front are "true" fans. (most people think they are too cool to sing and they are sitting in the front row. never do that. it gets the artist all pissed off)
3. it gets your moneys worth. so it feels like you sang with them.
4. if you go to a dashboard confessioal show and you are in the front row, Chris makes eye contact with you( if your lucky) and just stares at you for the whoel song, (this happened to me) you feel like he's singing to you and the others are singing to you!
dashboard confessional shows are 70% audience singing, just so you know!

This is more of a personal question to the performer but having friends that are also rock stars of sorts I think I can answer. Most of the time having the audience sing gets the audience involved and therefore the audience tends to have more fun. The audience also likes to sing because it makes them feel cool that they know all the words. Lastly it make sthe band feel good because they have actual fans! Fans that actually know the words too!

I understand your pain, but artists love when the audience sings along! That means, that their music is well-loved and well-received! I love to sing-a-long at concerts! Actually this interaction keeps me entertained. I hate when the artists cranks out the new stuff or the lesser-known songs. The audience just stands there silently and impatiently hoping and waiting for them to sing a song they are familiar with...so they can sing a-long!

I know some friends who went to a McGraw/Hill concert and didn't like it cause they kept running commercials during the show. So maybe it's just the way they do things. My friends were disapointed too by their concert.

They are trying to get the audience involved. An artist would be lucky to have an audience that knows all the words to their songs.

Crowd participation.
I know it makes the show for me. I remember seeing Rise Against and being up in the very front and Tim just shoves a mic right in front of our faces...pretty amazing experience.

How would you propose that we stop them from singing along?
