Los Gatos - Nice place tuck up next to the Santa Cruz Mountains in the south bay. Was stationed in the area in the mid '70s. I always took the drive along Skyline Drive and there was a look out point there you could at night see all the lights of the cities from Oakland and down to San Jose and back up to San Francisco. I have a friend that lives over in Fremont now, but lived over in Milpitas at the time and moved to Sunnyvale while I was still there. I was stationed at Sunnyvale AFS (Onizuka AFS) and spent a lot of time over at NASA Ames which was real close to the base I was at. Lots of good memories.

there are cool places to go in many of the cities, making for an overall appreciation of the bay area. santana row, jack london square, much of san francisco, berkeley...
i live in fremont, which although the 4th largest city in the bay area, is hardly on "the map." within 4 years however, we are building our own personal santana row like place near our "hub," along with a major project to build a world center, with shops, restaurants, and entertainment from areas all over the world. the center, when completed, will be huge, and hopefully fremont will begin rising in status over the next few years.

Burlingame is a great place, very close to San Francisco, but better weather and a very interesting town on its own merits. Aside from many excellent restaurants and stores there are many outdoor activities to be enjoyed as well.

Mill Valley. It's a great spot to chill in the Redwoods and people watch too. Also, it's a great stopping point for snacks before hitting Mount Tam.
