I wanted to ask if anyone else went through the same start to life, and do you look back now & realise how lucky you are ? It is only now that I am older that I realise what could have happened !

No I was christened in a church, but wow your mam and dad must be so proud of you to see you all grown up now and feeling blessed and lucky to have a child they were terrified of losing, hope you have a brilliant time in your life whatever you chose to do, always be yourself and make your life your own, good luck.

my mother had a serious motorbike accident when she was early on in her pregnancy with me. she was in a coma for several weeks and had head injuries. the last thing the hospital staff were concerned about was miscarriage, but 32 years later i'm still here. i think it makes you appreciate the fragility of life. don't dwell on it but appreciate what life has given you! my son was an emergency delivery due to complications in labour and although it was a terrifying time, i try not to think about what could have been but concentrate on what will be there for his future. hope this makes some sense!

I was also christened in hospital for a similar reason and I do feel that I got a second chance at life.

Christening means the parents promise to raise you with a knowledge of God. It is not the same as believer's baptism. If you die as a baby, you still go to Heaven, because you haven't sinned.

Um, could you elaborate? What could have happened?

I was christened in the hospital too, and it had zero effect on what happened to me, as far as I know. I was fortunate enough to be in a state-of-the-art teaching hospital in Philadelphia, and the doctors, nurses and helpers gave me and my mom excellent care, which saved my life.

I am totally confused about your question.

This is a ritual of the Roman Catholic Church.

I am a Catholic theologian, and I do not believe that there is a place called limbo or that babies go to hell. Would a loving God be so cruel to one of his little children? Of course not. To me it seems like nonsense that a special sacrament, created by human beings, has to be performed before God is granted the power by men to admit them into heaven. Obviously, this sacrament is practised in this case in order to bring peace to the parents.

I am pleased that you are well and happy but I can never get my head round this "what if" syndrome. Because you are well and an adult, there could never have been a chance that it could have happened any other way for you! You cannot change the past! Is it me?

i was 6 months old was in my last few hrs of life when my grandmother saw my blue lips( i was dehydrated due to gastrointeritis) i was bottlefed. she told my grandad to get the doc, who he had to threaten with violence as the doc was going to a dinner and dance in his tux. my gparents had a daughter that died at 18 months during ww2 with gastrointeritis. any way i survived(no), my nan has alzhiemers, my grandad had it too. they took us as kids to many countries to show us we live in a big big world and i thank them and appreciate their kindness and generosity, very special people. oh yes i had a lable on my crib saying not christened, so when i survived my mum wanted us christened. my oldest son is called billy, he is 6 though not 52.
